Strategies and Measures for the Official Statistical System Development of the Lao PDR 2006-2010
This strategy is to elaborate and effectively put into practice the Decree No. 140/PM of August 20, 2002 regarding the organizational structure and operation of the national statistical system, and to improve the statistical system as well as to produce official statistics which are reliable in terms of completeness, accuracy, and timeliness.
Since the statistical system of the Lao PDR comprises a number of organizations in ministries, ministry-equivalent authorities, provinces, Vientiane Capital, special zones, districts, villages and production units, the coordination among National Statistics Centre and producers and users of statistics need to be improved. Responsibility allocation among various stakeholders is the most important issue.
The main contents of the national statistics system strategy emphasize the need for national level statistics. Subject-matter strategies are not developed to include needs and uses of statistics specific for each ministries. This strategy consists of two main components:
1. What are the most fundamental requirements, or what are required to be done in the short run?
2. How does National Statistics Centre utilize and develop its capacity?
