Lao National Health Survey - 2000
Highlights:
The Lao National Health Survey 2000 is the first survey in the history of the health sector of Lao PDR in combination with the Multiple Indicators Cluster Survey (MICS) related to mother and child health at the end of the decade. The main objectives of the survey are to provide information about : 1) the health status and the morbidity of the population in Lao PDR, and 2) the availability of health services, and other related issues at the community levels that are relevant for priority-setting, policy, programme strategies and activities, and resource allocation.

Five
questionnaires were used: Village questionnaire, Household questionnaire,
Questionnaire for individuals, Questionnaire for women in reproductive
age, Questionnaire for children under five. The data collection was
done in three rounds. |
Sample design |
The list of villages and households from the
1999 Agriculture Census was used as sampling frame. A two-stage sampling
scheme was used. At the first stage a sample of 264 villages was selected
by systematic PPES. In the second stage a systematic sample of
25 households was selected in each sample village. The selection was
based on an updated list of households in the villages at the time of
the survey. |
Sample size |
Achieved sample: 264 villages, 6 449 households,
38 260 persons, 7 080 women in reproductive age, 6 293 children under
five. Response rates: households 97.7 %, women 98.3 %, children
99.0 %. |
