Highlights:

This report presents the results of the pilot Business Tendency Survey undertaken in July 2001. The report is divided into two parts. Part A provides a description of the statistical methodology. Results from the survey are presented in part B. 

 

The main objectives of the pilot survey were to:

Purpose

The main objectives of the pilot BTS are basically to:

  • Evaluate the feasibility of using complete enumeration and sampling approaches for the BTS survey.
  • Test all aspects of the survey including questionnaires, field supervision and logistics.
  • Evaluate the quality of data reported by the sample companies.
  • Test the data processing system.
Target population
All large and medium-sized enterprises in the two sectors Industry and Trade in four provinces.  
Survey period
1 month, July 2001
Survey design
Survey units are enterprises. A person in management position at the enterprise was interviewed. 
Sample design
The population was divided into two strata according to sector (industry, trade). A random sample of enterprises was selected from each stratum.
Sample size
362 trade enterprises and 249 industry enterprises.

  • Expected change in order book in volume during the next 3 months

  • Expected changes in average selling prices for the next 3 months
  • Price change of own production during the past 3 months
  • Current capacity utilization in percent
  • Assessment of the current business situation
  • Expected business situation in the next six months
  • Assessment of the current financial situation
  • Borrowing for investments
  • Assessment of the credit ability of the enterprise
